Purpose

Two Harbors has played an important role during all US conflicts by supplying the steel mills of the Lower Great Lakes with approximately 90% of the iron ore needed to build the tools of war: tanks, trucks, and planes. Therefore, we are proposing that this memorial be built in Two Harbors. Its location and visibility should add to the experience of both residents and visitors.

We also proposed that Public Works displays such as the WWI cannon, the Iron Ore Ball which commemorates the 50th Anniversary of the first iron ore shipment in 1884, currently in Thomas Owens Memorial Park and the Veterans Memorial on the Lake County Courthouse grounds be moved near this new memorial.
